Duct Sealing

Your home’s ductwork can cover anywhere from a few hundred square feet to thousands of square feet, depending on the size of your home. That is a lot of surface area in which to develop a leak. Even a small leak can potentially reduce airflow by as much as 25%. Not only can a leak reduce the heat and air comfort levels in your home, but it can cost you a lot of money on your heating and cooling bills. For this reason if you suspect a leak in your ductwork or you haven’t had your system inspected in a while, you should call Iceblast for duct sealing services.

How Duct Leaks Happen

There are several reasons why leaks can occur in the ductwork. The most common reason is age; this is because ductwork is usually made of sheet metal. Over time that metal can start to weaken and open at the seams. When it comes to non-metal ductwork it can become torn or mice and other pets may chew through it and cause leaks as well. Because leaks can develop rapidly, we recommend having your system inspected regularly.

How Duct Sealing Works

If you suspect a leak in your ductwork, you should call us immediately to inspect the system. First, we will seal off the duct system entirely and pressurize it in order to test for leaks. The pressurization test will show where leaks might be present. We’ll track the leaks to pinpoint precisely where they need to be repaired. While whole-system duct sealing is an option, for cost and time savings we typically find homeowners prefer that we find the actual source of air loss and seal it rather than sealing all of the ductwork at once. Additionally, we can provide preventative sealing and insulation so that the remainder of your ductwork can continue to move air efficiently.
